{"id":24977,"date":"2024-12-30T11:18:02","date_gmt":"2024-12-30T11:18:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lotuswellness.in\/lotus\/?p=24977"},"modified":"2024-12-30T11:18:02","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T11:18:02","slug":"relaxing-with-chaos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lotuswellness.in\/lotus\/relaxing-with-chaos\/","title":{"rendered":"Relaxing with Chaos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/dromprakash.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr G Om Prakasham<\/a><br \/>\nChairman, Lotus Wellness<br \/>\nConsultant Cardiac Surgeon<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a big part of us that doesn\u2019t like chaos: we want order and simplicity and feeling like we\u2019re on top of things and doing things the \u201cright\u201d way.<br \/>\nAnd so when things feel chaotic, we scramble for some kind of stability:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 When we feel overwhelmed and out of control, we might beat ourselves up and try to look for a system to get things under control.<br \/>\n\u2022 When someone is upset with us, we might not like the feeling of being judged and the uncertainty about how people see us, and so we might lash out at them or spin around a story for days about how terrible that person is.<br \/>\n\u2022 When plans don\u2019t go how we hoped they would, we feel like we\u2019re on unsteady ground, and we start criticizing ourselves or feeling like we\u2019re doing things wrong and things are out of control, and it might bring a lot of stress in our lives.<br \/>\n\u2022 When we think about putting our work out there into the world (by writing a book or putting out an album, for example) \u2026 we worry about the shakiness of putting ourselves out to be judged, and might decide that we won\u2019t be OK if that happens, because it just feels too scary, and so we put off putting my work out there, for years.<\/p>\n<p>Do you relate to any of these examples? In fact, the uncertainty of our chaotic lives is perhaps the main cause of our anxiety, stress, frustration, self-doubt, fears, procrastination, distraction and more.<br \/>\nWe know when we\u2019re feeling this chaos when we\u2019re reaching for a new tool, system, method, tactic, plan, expert, book on a topic \u2026 or our phones.<\/p>\n<p>There is nothing wrong with any of these things. It\u2019s just how we normally respond to chaos.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But if we could relax in the middle of that chaos, it could do so much for us:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 We would be OK with the feeling of overwhelm, and not need to panic or feel bad.<br \/>\n\u2022 We would simply take the next step.<br \/>\n\u2022 We could focus on one thing at a time.<br \/>\n\u2022 We could put our work out in to the world, letting ourselves be with the shakiness of being judged.<br \/>\n\u2022 We could be with someone\u2019s upsetness, giving them compassion rather than worrying about whether we\u2019ll be OK.<br \/>\n\u2022 We could simply meditate, go for a walk, exercise, eat healthy food, deal with our finances, and do all kinds of other simple, helpful actions that we put off when we feel stressed about chaos.<br \/>\n\u2022 And much, much more.<\/p>\n<p>The training is to learn to relax with chaos. And from that place, decide on the next simple step.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Training with the Chaos<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The training is to notice when we\u2019re feeling chaos \u2026 and then use it as a kind of meditation, to breathe and then relax.<br \/>\nNotice when you\u2019re feeling chaos. You don\u2019t have to look for it \u2014 you\u2019re probably feeling it right now. The world will always give us enough chaos to practice with. It\u2019s a gift.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notice it, and then pause.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Breathe.
